| Dr. John Payne of Pittsburgh Veterinary Surgery and Dr. Freddie Fu, chair of orthopedics at UPMC, performed surgery on an exceptional patient on
June 13, 2007. "Johnny", a mandrill monkey at the Pittsburgh Zoo, had been suffering from knee pain and was diagnosed with a partial tear of his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). While
Dr. Payne routinely performs arthroscopic surgery on dogs, this procedure to determine the extent of "Johnny's" injury required the cooperation of Pittsburgh Zoo veterinarians and technicians
in addition to Dr. Fu's and Dr. Payne's combined expertise. |
