Koichi Nagata, DVM, DACVR (Radiation Oncology)
Dr. Koichi Nagata graduated from the University of Tokyo with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2003, and completed a small animal internal medicine internship at the University of Tokyo in 2004. Dr. Nagata completed the Tufts University ECFVG Program in 2006 in order to obtain his US veterinary license. Afterward, he completed an oncology internship at the Regional Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield, VA and then completed a 1-year radiation oncology internship at the University of Pennsylvania. In September 2010, before joining PVSEC, Dr. Nagata completed a radiation oncology residency at the University of Missouri-Columbia and became a board-certified radiation oncologist.

The American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) was established in 1961, with the stated objective to "[advance] the art and science of radiology". The development of the specialty of radiation oncology was developed by the ACVR in 1994. Currently there are 411 active Diplomates of the ACVR, including 54 active Diplomates in the radiation oncology specialty.
Criteria to become a Board-Certified Radiation Oncologist - Diplomate of the ACVR (Radiation Oncology) includes:
- Graduation from an accredited veterinary school with a DVM or VMD degree
- Completion of a 1-year medical/surgical internship
- Completion of a 2-3-year ACVR approved Radiation Oncology residency
- Completion of comprehensive written examinations administered by the ACVR
